How We Operate
We operate a diaper assistance program, sourcing diapers through donations and purchases. Volunteers are essential to our operations, sorting and re-packaging diapers in bundles of 25 for monthly distribution. Each month, our network of non-profit partners, made up of food pantries and social service agencies, pick up diapers to distribute directly to families in their local communities, ensuring our support reaches babies who need it most.
About Us
The Columbus Diaper Coalition was created in response to an unmet need within our community. After learning that diapers were not covered by Ohio Works First, SNAP Benefits, or other social-service organizations in Ohio, the Co-Founders Iris Coker and Lara Smith began to put the wheels in motion to start a diaper bank.
Iris Coker felt a personal connection to families struggling to make ends meet and provide for their children. Having been a single mother working full-time and attending college full-time at Ohio Dominican University, she understood the tough financial decisions parents are often forced to make. She understood that something as simple as assistance with diapers could offer parents peace of mind and a measure of relief from financial stress.
The Columbus Diaper Coalition officially launched in November of 2013, initially partnering with two Columbus-area food pantries. Since then, we have expanded our reach through additional partnerships with food pantries and social service organizations. Our vision is to grow into a diaper bank that is able to serve families across the Greater Columbus area in Ohio.
